22 September 2013

On Wednesday I started my social studies and I listened to lots of audiobooks about the Romans and read books about them. Today I took a test about them and wrote down three interesting things that I didn't know before.

The three interesting thing I learned!

#1
The Romans had army camps all around their empire
                      in case the people rebelled.

 #2
Even though the Romans had four people running the
                                 empire it still fell.

  #3
The Roman warriors used their shields to make a "tortoise shell"
to protect themselves from when in battle.

On Saturday night I got a new bike frame, later on Sunday afternoon my Dad and I used parts from two other bikes and we switched the bars, brakes, tires and cranks! It wasn't too hard but it took us 2 1/2 hours to finish. Hopefully my friends and I can go to Island 22 next weekend. :)

I went to the lake
It was quite nice and very warm
I had lots of fun

Me and my family went to Cultus Lake on Thursday morning, we did wake boarding, cliff jumping with a little bit of the rope swing. The lake was quiet and calm with very few boats on it, the water was so very nice.

My mom and I are reading the Hobbit, these are some of the words from the book and a thesaurus that describe Hobbit Hill.
This is the path over the river leading to Bilbo's house.
This is where Bilbo met Gandalf.
This is where all of the dwarves left there coats.
Where Bilbo got all of the food from.
Where all the dwarves ate and drank Bilbo's wine.

I have the chance to attend a fall ball clinic here at the local ball park all through September with Shawn Corness.  He has had 40 years of experience playing and coaching baseball. He has been teaching us drills and workouts that will help us become better ball players and that is what the camp is all about.

Jack and I had nothing better to do, so he weaved pool noodles and I made a Ghostbusters costume. We attached a hose to the launcher and it shot water. It was awesome! It wasn't really difficult, it only took us 10 or 15 minutes to build.

This afternoon I filled about 50 snack bags full of snacks. I did it because we are very busy throughout the next couple of weeks so we need little snacks to take along. :)

The Hobbit – Chapter One

Bilbo Baggins, the Hobbit, met Gandalf outside his step while enjoying a pipe of tobacco. They made plans to have tea on Wednesday.  On Wednesday, Bilbo was setting up some tea for himself when a ring from his doorbell reminded him that he had company today.  When he went to open the door, he jumped because it was not Gandalf at the door it was a dwarf.

The dwarf walked in and said “Is there anyone else here yet?”

Bilbo repeated “Anyone else, why what are you talking about?”.

The dwarf replied “Any of the others, there was a meeting planned here and we were promised food”.

Bilbo stuttered, “Meeting? Food?” so Bilbo went to the kitchen and grabbed some more bread.  He asked the dwarf if he wanted tea, he replied “No, I’ll be fine with some beer”.

Sure enough, by the end of the night his house was full of dwarfs. They ate all his food, sang many songs and finally Gandalf arrived with Thorin the most important dwarf of all.  Bilbo was surprised because as soon as Thorin saw him Gandalf said “Isn’t he perfect?”  Thorin needed a 14th member for his adventure and that person was Bilbo Baggins of Bag-End.
